Network Solutions

Overview

Learn how to connect your website to your domain at Network Solutions, so visitors to www.yoursite.com will see your website.

Compatibility warning

At this time, Network Solutions does not allow users access to the DNS settings needed to complete the recommended domain set up.  It is still possible to complete domain setup using an alternate method outlined in this article, but this method requires continued paid hosting service from Network Solutions to work correctly.

For this reason, we recommend transferring to a different domain registrar if possible.

Steps to follow

  1. Login to your Network Solutions account.

  2. After logging in, make sure you are under the My Products & Services tab
  3. Under the ‘My Domain Names’ click on Edit DNS.
  4. In small writing in the middle-right of the screen, there is an option for ‘Edit Advanced DNS records,’ click this.
  5. Scroll down and click the button for ‘Edit CNAME Records’
  6. In the first empty box place: www, leave TTL at 7200, select the radio button for Other Host and place s.multiscreensite.com in the Other Host box.
  7. Scroll down and click the blue continue button.
  8. Confirm the settings you are saving.
  9. Now we need to ensure that when someone visits yourwebsite.com (without typing www. first) that they will see your website as well. To do that, you'll need to follow the steps for redirecting the base domain in the next section.

Redirecting the base domain

Paid web hosting from Network Solutions is required to complete this section. Without paid hosting, you cannot set up a .htaccess 301 redirect.

Once you have hosting, follow these steps to set up your .htaccess 301 redirect:

  1. Go to networksolutions.com.
  2. Press Manage account.
  3. Log in if necessary.
  4. Go to the My Hosting Packages section and click the Upload Files (FTP) link.
  5. Press File Manager.
  6. If the file manager doesn't automatically open in a new window in a few seconds, make sure that pop-ups are not blocked for this page on your browser.
  7. In the search bar at the bottom of the file manager, type the word htaccess and press Search.
  8. Click the .htaccess file to enter it so you can edit it.
  9. Add the following to the top of the .htaccess (change .yoursitename.com to your site name):
    1 Redirect 301 /http://www.yoursitename.com
  10. Press Save.

If you don't already have an .htaccess file (the search in step 7 has no results),

  1. Press New File.
  2. In File Name, type .htaccess.
  3. Add the above code to the file.
  4. Press Save.

Common issues

One item that might come up when trying to create the CNAME record is an error message notifying you that there already is a record in place for @ or www. You will need to delete the existing records for these values and then start at step 5 above. They are probably under the 'A record' section.

Please note that new CNAME records may take a few minutes to show up in your account, and might take up to 24 hours to fully propagate, during this time your new site will be unavailable.
